“Getting to know you,
Getting to know all about you.
Getting to like you,
Getting to hope you like me.”
These lyrics are from the Broadway musical The King and I.” Written by Rodgers and Hammerstein, it opened in 1952. Those who don’t recall this song can hear the first few lines sung in this video.
There is a new technology that has quietly penetrated our lives and is getting to know us. Amazon has a personal assistant named it Alexa. We own one. Perhaps I should say that Alexa owns us?
My wife and I were conversing in our home. She mentioned looking for a bookshelf. Instantly, the light bar on the top of our Alexa unit lit up and spun around in recognition of the mere mention of a bookshelf. Amazon now knows we just might be interested in buying a bookshelf. Alexa has gone into that same excited spin many times and we have seen promotional ads related to our conversation on the Internet for the next several days. Tired of having an unwanted guest listening to our conversations, we considered learning sign language but decided to pull the plug from the wall.
Amazon now offers a version of Alexa for children. Amazon wants to know all about or children. How helpful of them. Be sure and get one for your children or grandchildren. Or NOT!
